Onederfest

Louiseville, Kentucky. Every year they host one of the biggest fan festivals in the US. Lebowskifest. The town is in no way associated with the film or the Coen brothers, but some people decided to host one anyway. They've even written a book about the fim and had a documentary made about the festival.

Riverside, Iowa. A small town not many people know of. But is the home (actually future home) of Captain James Tiberius Kirk. And every year that town honors him and the whole Star Trek universe by holding Trek Fest on Kirk's birthday. There's a parade, a plaque commemoration him and they have cast members come and show the movies and television episodes, plus selling a shit load of merchandise that has Riverside and Kirk all over it.

There are multiple towns that have a Wizard of Oz fest. Plus other towns and other movies.

This leads me to Onederfest. You could pronounce it One-derfest or O-nederfest. One of my favorite movies is "That Thing You Do". And having half the movie take place in my home town, I think Erie should have a That Thing You Do festival.

Supposedly Tom Hanks (the writer, director, and (in my opinion) star of the film, has been through Erie back in the early '80s, fell in love with it's charm, and decided to use it years later as the home town of a struggling rock band called the Oneders. If he liked the town so much, I don't see a problem, schedule permitting, that he would want to participate. Since it was the first film he directed and first screenplay he wrote, I would think that this film would have some personal meaning to him. I mean, he did name his production company Play-Tone after the fictional record company that signed the Wonders.

I haven't thought too much about the details, but I can imagine the Warner Theater showing the film, getting the cast to possibly show up, host a local Battle of The Bands at Mercyhurst College, the local radio stations (the ones that are left, miss ya Froggy) could play it every hour that day for contests......whatever, I just think it should happen, I don't know how, but I'll try to look into it.

Just had the idea and needed to get it off of my chest.

The Adventures of Pete & Pete

For those who grew up watching Nickleodeon in it's hey day, you would remember one of the greatest shows of all time, The Adventures of Pete & Pete. There's so much to say, yet so little needed to be said. It's just so ingrained into my head that even the stock library music used in the show (also used on Ren and Stimpy plus so many others) brings a warmth to me only equaled by Snick and Wild and Crazy Kids. Here is a colection of some of the most memerable music cues from the show. Favorites include: Hit and Run, Blood In The Gutter, Saw Theme, and Fisticuffs.

An Evening With Kevin Smith

It was a day in Orlando. I had just started film school. I got to the convention center early. Didn't do much during the day, just waited til evening. When the doors open I got a decent seat in the first section. Right by the microphone. I was fourth in line. When it was my turn, I told Kevin that I didn't have a question, I had a complaint. As I continued with telling him why I bought the Roadhouse DVD that had his commentary, he walked down off of the stage toward me. The crowd stirred as if a fight was about to go down. Did it? This should finish my story....

It's a da Pope-ah!

Finally, after all of the speculation, Thomas Lennon said on Jimmy Fallon that The State is finally getting a DVD release. I can't tell you how long I have been waiting for this. It was my Holy Grail of DVD's. All episodes including commentary and never-before-seen sketches that never made it to air. Lennon said because they were crap, but I believe we will be the judge of that. No word on release date (mainly because I haven't looked yet). Correction: July 14, 2009. Yes, a week after my birthday (wink-wink, nudge-nudge).

Professing My Love for Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place

I've just "gotten" all four seasons and am falling in love all over again. It doesn't help that I always had a crush on Traylor Howard.

Starting Off

This blog will feature many things. Mostly of my interest: movies, music, my rantings, odd stuff. So look for some good downloads coming in the future.
